The Heidi Lowe Gallery will offer a wax sculpted ring course in four sessions from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 15 and 22 and April 12 and 19.
Participants will learn how to carve a ring and a wax sculptural ring in this four-session course. Lowe will teach students the basics of wax carving, subtractive and additive techniques, sizing, and preparing wax models for casting. She’ll send the wax patterns to the foundry, cast them in silver, and then walk students step-by-step through the cleaning process, from core removal to a polished finish.
“Wax sculpting is a different way of working to make jewelry. It’s a very useful skill set for beginning students and professional jewelers alike,” Lowe said.
Registration closes Saturday, March 12. No experience is necessary; participants must be at least 14 years old. Material costs are included in the price of the course, except for the cost of money for casts, which will vary depending on each student’s design. The cost, including materials, is $450.
The Heidi Lowe Gallery is open for shopping by appointment, curbside pickup, and for private and group classes at 17522 Ward Ave., Lewes.
