Panchkula, August 28

Residents of Ghaggar sectors staged a candlelight march to protest against the foul smell emanating from the dumpsite located a few meters from a residential area in Sector 23 and Jheuriwala dumpsite.

Residents said they informed the relevant authorities of the problem, but to no avail. The protesters said that during the monsoon the area stank a lot and they had to suffer even inside their homes.

Sanjeev Goyal, Chairman of Citizens Committee of Home Owners, Sector 25, said: “The situation is too bad in our sectors. Not even a single officer or the local deputy pays attention to our problem. »

Goyal said even the Center’s expert assessment panel sub-committee found discrepancies in the environmental clearances given to the Jheuriwala dump. He said the committee had declared the site unsuitable for a solid waste management plant. The panel observed that given the importance of environmental conservation, it would not be appropriate to set up a solid waste management plant in a natural forest adjacent to a wildlife sanctuary, he said. added.
