Guatemala. Associations that comply with Guatemala’s Organized Private Tourism Sector Crisis Committee are pleased to announce that since July, frontline tourism workers have priority for vaccination against COVID-19.
This action is in addition to the implementation of biosecurity measures and the observation of good practices in the prevention of COVID-19, through the Safe Travel labels of the WTTC and INGUAT, as well as the individual protocols which observe the service providers. This helps provide safe experiences in controlled environments for international visitors to travel safely and in an organized manner to Guatemala.
Andreas Kuestermann, Chairman of the Sustainable Tourism Commission of the Guatemalan Association of Exporters and Guatemala Conventions Bureau, thanked the authorities of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance for recognizing and prioritizing all frontline workers tourism to be prioritized in phase 3 of the national vaccination plan.
The management and impetus of private initiative were decisive in identifying front-line workers, with the support and accompaniment of the Guatemala Tourism Office (INGUAT).
Vaccination for the tourism sector includes the following business sectors: airport workers, hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, restaurants, event and wedding planners, tour guides, car rental companies, crafts, cultural centers , event decorators, Spanish language schools, photographers, museum, park and nature reserve workers.
Rolando Schweikert, president of the Guatemalan Chamber of Tourism, said that “for our sector, mass vaccination and its workers is a priority and we are making rapid progress in major tourist destinations. This action is fundamental to regaining the confidence of wholesalers and travel agencies around the world to sell travel programs to visit Guatemala to their customers.
