On Wednesday, I became an owner for the first time. Honestly, it wasn’t like the big party you’d expect when buying a home for the first time since buying the house we’ve been renting for five years. The biggest concern on Wednesday was whether or not we would have power after the house was closed, as AEP wanted to remind everyone how awful they are.
Now that I own the house I live in, I can really go crazy with Ohio State decor if I wanted to. Well, not totally crazy, since I’m not the sole decision-maker when it comes to what goes on the walls and throughout the house, but there are areas I can put my own spin on. Not that I couldn’t before as our owner was a really nice guy who really only came around on the rare occasion when we needed something fixed. It’s just now that I feel more comfortable with adding elements to the walls.
While I haven’t pulled the trigger to upgrade the home decor yet, there are a number of things that caught my eye. A lot of this stuff came out of Fanatics, mostly because it was a bit easier to research, but it was more just for grabbing a few ideas. There are probably local vendors or artists that you can find similar products that you feel better supporting since they are based in Ohio.
This would probably be my first purchase since loving darts. My next door neighbor has a few boards we regularly shoot at, and there are a few friends I play in a darts league with at Ledo’s. The first game of the 2021 season actually fell on a Thursday, which was darts league night, so I actually watched Ohio State take on Minnesota at Ledo’s.
This dart cabinet has a great look. The right combination of scarlet and gray to go with a weathered look. Since our house is a bit older, it would be fitting if a dart cabinet was part of it.
Even though it’s $170, keep an eye on the Fanatics site, since on Saturday I saw it on sale for around $120. If you can find it around that price, it would definitely either make a belated Father’s Day gift, or you could do your Christmas shopping early for the darts fan in your family.
While this photo would have looked better had it been at Ohio Stadium, it’s still a great shot. The Buckeyes take to the field before the first college football playoff championship game before Ohio State defeats Oregon at JerryWorld. We all know what happened in the game now, but we weren’t quite sure what would happen in early 2015. I love how it looks like the Buckeyes are ready to run straight in your living room, or wherever you decide to hang this beautiful print.
I love this because I visited the Maker’s Mark Distillery in Kentucky and dipped a bottle I purchased in wax. There have been times when I’ve seen collector’s edition bottles created with different colors of wax, and I wished we could get an Ohio State collector’s bottle. This will probably be the closest to something like this. Not only do we get the top wax, but we get the state outline created from a bourbon cask. Perfect for the Ohio State fan who likes to drink a little whiskey.
It’s just a really goofy lamp that I would absolutely love. I remember having a lava lamp as a kid, but it had nothing to do with this one, which has a Bluetooth speaker attached to it. I’m sure if you weren’t able to watch the game, you could use the speakerphone to listen to Paul Keels and Jim Lachey break down all the action. Or, in the winter, the simple look of the lamp can help you warm up when Keels and Ron Stokes call Ohio State basketball games. This lamp makes it look like it would be a no-brainer for any entertainment den.
These coasters are awesome mainly because they would provide a great talking point. Are these the four best plays in Ohio State history? They are certainly important, I don’t know if the best ones have been found. What about “Holy Buckeye”? Even if it were simple, could we get a coaster for “The Spot” just because it was really good? We could go on for hours debating which would be the perfect set of four coasters, but we’ll save that for another day.
After showing some love for the football program, I thought we should do the same for the basketball program. We have a giant basement and if I were to put a recliner, TV, dart board, etc. anywhere would be over there. The only problem is that the floors are concrete, so in the winter they can get quite cold. This mat would not only solve this problem, the field design is really sharp here. There are also larger sizes of this mat, so if you thought 4′ x 6′ wasn’t big enough, there are other options!
